Shetland (/ˈʃɛtlÉ™nd/; Scottish Gaelic: Sealtainn [ˈʃalÌªË t̪ʰɪɲ]), also called the Shetland Islands, is a subarctic archipelago of Scotland that lies north-east of the island of Great Britain and forms part of the United Kingdom.
An island /ˈaɪlənd/ or isle /ˈaɪl/ is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys.
