Appropriate definitions, or not…
Waimea is a common name in Hawaii and New Zealand. In Hawaiian, it means reddish water, but in Maori it has no meaning.
A gorge or canyon (cañon, old spelling occasionally still used) is a deep ravine between pairs of escarpments or cliffs and is the most often carved landscape by the erosive activity of a river over geologic timescales.
Kauaʻi or Kauai (/kə.ˈwaɪ.iː/; Hawaiian: [kɔuˈwɐʔi]) is geologically the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands.
